These sgrafitto enamel earrings are made by torch firing black and turquois enamel onto a 2″ long copper tear drop shape. I drew a sun ray pattern into the enamel before torch firing, allowing all the bright turquoise colors to shine thru the black enamel. They are shown on a gunmetal ear wire which is nickel and lead free, with a colorful glass bead adorning it. These are light and comfy to wear.
Black and Turquoise Copper Enameled Tear Drop Earrings
My name is Maria Cartwright and I’m the artist of 222 Creations. I create torch fired copper enameled jewelry and flame painted copper jewelry. My enamel jewelry is made by sifting enamel, which is powdered glass, onto a copper shape. I then torch fire the piece, which fuses the enamel onto the copper, turning it back into hard, shiny glass! I love using the technique called Sgrafitto, which is drawing designs and patterns into the powdered enamel before firing. My flame painted copper jewelry is made by painting patterns onto a copper shape with just a torch, and as the copper heats and cools it turns different colors! I have control of the pattern only – nature makes the colors, so each piece will always be one of a kind! All ear wires that I use are hypo allergenic.
