When designing this pendant, I was drawn to a particular template in my arsenal of choices. With it’s curves and indentations, it has a romantic feel from days gone by.
Handmade with bronze metal clay, a medium that consists of very fine particles of metal mixed with a water-soluble, non toxic organic binder to create a workable clay. The clay was rolled out, textured, cut to size and shape. Much of the fine tuning is done in the green ware stage. When I am pleased with my work, the clay is fired at very high temperatures for several hours. During the firing, the water-soluble, non toxic organic binder burns away and the particles fuse together. The result is pure metal.
I finish the pendant using traditional metalsmith techniques.
